Dr Michelle Hayes and the CWFT Education Fellows
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop attendees should be able to:
1) Understand the clinical and teaching value of augmented reality (AR) tools in procedural training for emergency needle decompression, percutaneous and surgical chest drains.
2) Perform needle decompression safely and effectively on a simulated patient, demonstrating correct landmark identification, aseptic technique, and adherence to emergency management protocols for a tension pneumothorax.
3) Interpret AR feedback to recognise and correct technical errors, such as incorrect intercostal space, insertion angle, or depth, thereby improving accuracy and reducing potential complications of needle decompression and chest drain insertion.
